IMS Big Bang Precision Filter Basket 54 mm – h23.5 (for Sage & Breville)
For Sage and Breville, yet in a different league: The Big Bang directs the espresso to the center, making it sweeter, rounder, and more even – visibly so in a bottomless portafilter.
Nobody needs a special basket for good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want it because the cup becomes sweeter and rounder. This is one of many possible choices, and we respect both directions.
What makes this basket special
The Big Bang is IMS's latest innovation, here in the 54mm format for Sage and Breville brew groups: 585 holes concentrated towards the center of the basket. This distributes the espresso evenly across the entire surface, prevents channeling, and highlights the sweetness of the coffee while reducing acidity. The basket is ridgeless, designed for bottomless portafilters. Espresso is extraction via a weight ratio, usually 1:2; taste and smell are inseparable, a large part of which occurs retronasally. It is our observation that the choice of basket fundamentally alters the flavor profile.

For Sage and Breville users who want a sweeter, rounder espresso with even extraction – especially nice with medium to darker roasts. The lower 23.5mm height is designed for moderate doses; if you want more coffee mass, look at the higher 54mm variants (25.5 / 27.5 mm). All budgets are welcome.
What goes with it

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this basket fit my Sage or Breville?
Yes – it's made for 54mm Sage and Breville brew groups, with a 53–53.5mm tamper. Best used in a bottomless portafilter.
What does the Big Bang hole pattern do?
585 holes concentrate towards the center, directing the flow centrally and ensuring very even extraction. This prevents channeling and emphasizes sweetness while reducing acidity.
Which roast is the Big Bang suitable for?
Medium to darker roasts come out particularly well. With very bright, citrusy coffees, some experimentation is worthwhile – the Big Bang deliberately reduces acidity.
Can I see the basket before buying?
Yes, in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b).
Roastery Tip
The Big Bang emphasizes sweetness and reduces acidity – perfectly suited for full-bodied roasts. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate, Nutty Delight, and – for maximum body without any acidity – Very Nutty are particularly well-suited. Those looking for the fruity side of lighter roasts will find the Big Bang less to their liking – honestly speaking. Our recommendation, one of many.
