Comandante XXL Crank – a longer crank for the Comandante hand grinder
Fine grind settings, dense light-roasted beans, hard grains or spices: this is where a hand grinder takes effort. According to Comandante, the XXL Crank is another step longer than the Black Crank. More leverage, less effort per turn.
The crank is made of stainless steel and has a clear crank lid. It comes with the Big Joe knob, 55 mm in diameter, made of solid German oak. It is made in Germany.
A longer crank does not change the grind size, only the effort. How fine you grind remains a question of bean, brew method and taste. Our opinion is one of many.

Frequently asked questions
Does the XXL Crank fit my Comandante?
Retailers list the Comandante C40 and the C60 Baracuda. Comandante itself does not publish a model list for the XXL Crank. For older grinders, it is worth asking at [email protected] before you buy.
What does the longer crank do?
More leverage and therefore less effort per turn. Comandante recommends it for very fine grind settings, dense light-roasted beans and hard grains and spices.
Does the crank change the grind size?
No. The grind size is set on the grinder. The crank only changes how much force you need per turn.
Tip from the roastery: For espresso from a hand grinder we like to grind Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight, both chocolatey and nutty. For lots of body without acidity there is Very Nutty. That is our recommendation, one of many.
