What are the benefits of the Black Crank XL?

The Comandante Black Crank XL (CHF 49.95) is a significantly longer crank handle for the C40. Advantages:

• Leverage Advantage: longer crank = less effort per bean. Noticeably more relaxed for harder light roasts or larger quantities of beans
• Grinding Speed: typically 20–30% less grinding time per 18g of ground material
• Ergonomics: ergonomically better rotation, less wrist strain
• Design Language: black and sporty, perfect for modern Comandante setups

For regular home use with over 20g of ground coffee, or for setups where grinding time needs to be reduced, the Black Crank XL is a very thoughtful investment.

What are the benefits of the Red Clix?

Standard Comandante C40 has 30 clicks per rotation for grind adjustment. The Red Clix RX35 Drivetrain Upgrade Set (CHF 52.95) increases the resolution to 50 clicks per rotation. Advantages:

• Finer Grind Resolution: 0.5 clicks of the standard Comandante correspond to ~0.6 clicks with the Red Clix. Crucial for espresso-focused setups
• More Reproducible Brewing Profiles: the finer steps allow for very precise adjustment to different beans
• Compatible with Bottomless Workflow: ideal for setups with bottomless portafilters and specialty demands

For filter-focused setups or setups with only one standard bean: not essential. For espresso-focused setups or specialty workflow with various beans: noticeably worthwhile.

Which knob for Comandante C40?

Purely a matter of taste. Oak Series (CHF 13.90 – smoked, natural, black smoked): classic, warm, tactilely soft, matching the standard design language. Beech Wood Color Series (CHF 17.95 – Red, Wine Red, Pink, Purple, Blue, Yellow): color accented, strong design. Skateboard Edition (CHF 69.95–74.95): unique construction from recycled skateboard material, each knob is visually unique. A highlight for collectors.

Black Crank XL or XXL Crank?

Black Crank XL (CHF 49.95): the longer standard upgrade, 20–30% less grinding time. XXL Crank (CHF 59.95): the even longer version for maximum leverage advantage. For classic home use: Black Crank XL is sufficient. For setups with high grinding volume or comfort requirements: XXL Crank.

Is the Red Clix worth it?

Polymer or glass bean jar?

Polymer (CHF 7.95–14.95): lighter, more robust, less fragile (ideal for travel), many colors available. Glass (CHF 23.95 for 4 pieces): classic look, you can see the ground coffee directly, more hygienic (glass does not absorb aromas), but heavier and fragile. For travel: Polymer. How do I disassemble a Comandante for cleaning?

The Comandante is explicitly designed for disassembly: completely disassembled and reassembled in about 5 minutes. Workflow: remove knob, remove crank, open housing, remove burr, tap with cleaning brush (CHF 12.95), reassemble everything. No water in the burr! For deeper cleaning every 2–3 months.

Which spare parts might I need over time?

With long-term use (10+ years), the following parts can wear out: O-ring (CHF 3.50, every 3–5 years), Disc Set (CHF 10.80, every 5–7 years), Central Axle (CHF 9.95, rarely). These parts are explicitly designed to be modularly replaceable and all available at CCC.

Is a felt cover really necessary?

For travel: yes, highly recommended. The Comandante is a valuable investment (CHF 258–899) and should be protected during transport. The Felt Protective Cover (CHF 38.95) protects against scratches and minor impacts. For purely home use: not necessary.

What is the difference between C40 and C60 Baracuda?

Different burr sizes. C40 Nitro Blade (CHF 258.50): 38mm burr, standard specialty class, 44mm knob. C60 Baracuda (CHF 599.95–899.95): 60mm burr, higher grinding speed and tonal aroma depth, 55mm knob. For specialty standard, C40 is sufficient. For higher daily volume or premium demands: C60 Baracuda.
