E61 Shower Screen – dispersion screen Ø 60 mm for the E61 group head
The water leaves the group, meets a fine metal screen and falls onto the puck as an even rain. This shower screen is the standard dispersion screen for the E61 group head.
It sits directly above the coffee grounds and spreads the brewing water across the whole surface. The E61 group head was introduced by FAEMA in 1961 and is still found in many portafilter machines today.
Why the shower screen matters
If the water flows evenly, the puck extracts evenly. A clogged screen directs the water to individual spots, where more dissolves, and less elsewhere.
Over time, coffee oils and limescale settle in the holes. A replacement returns the water flow to its original state. A daily backflush without detergent and a backflush with detergent roughly every 50 shots keep the screen clean for longer.

Switch off the machine and let it cool down completely. The shower screen sits in the group head together with the group gasket. If you are unsure, the replacement is a job for a qualified technician.
