ECM bean hopper 250 g – bean hopper for the 54 series
A look down into the grinder: beans up to just below the rim, enough for the next few mornings, no more.
250 grams is a deliberately modest amount. Beans start to age as soon as they come into contact with oxygen and light, and a hopper that is always filled to the brim works against what was created in the roastery. If you only fill in as much as will go through the grinder in the near future, you can taste it.
For the 54 series
The hopper belongs to the ECM grinders with 54-millimetre burrs. ECM supplies the C-Automatik 54 with a 250-gram hopper as standard – here you get it on its own, as a replacement or as a second hopper for a different bean.
Two hoppers side by side are the simplest way to run two roasts in parallel without emptying the hopper every time. Coffee contains over 800 aromatic compounds, more than wine, and which of them end up in the cup also depends, in the end, on how fresh the bean is when it goes into the grinder.
Whether that's a difference you can taste is up to you. Espresso is complex, but it isn't rocket science, and enjoyment comes before perfection. Our opinion is one of many.

Who it's for
For anyone with an ECM 54 series grinder whose hopper shows signs of wear after years of use, and for anyone who wants to run two beans in parallel. A second hopper saves you emptying it every time you switch.
No budget is just a beginning here. A grinder with 54-millimetre burrs makes dense, aromatic espresso, and a matching hopper is as much a part of looking after it as a clean basket.
What goes well with it
If you're thinking about grinders anyway: among our coffee grinders, both routes lead to the goal – affordable and precise, the VS3 from the Varia collection or a Comandante hand grinder; if you want to invest more, the VS6, the EG-1 from Weber Workshops or a Lagom from Option-O. Burr sets are like car engines, subjective and without a best model.
For beans outside the grinder, you'll find airtight canisters under bean hoppers and storage canisters, and more for your grinder under coffee grinder accessories and spare parts. A scale belongs next to it: compact and reliable from Normcore, with an app and flow-rate display from Acaia.
Frequently asked questions
Does the hopper fit my grinder?
It's intended for the ECM 54 series grinders. If you're not sure which grinder you have, send us the item number and we'll give you a definite answer.
How much coffee does it hold?
Around 250 grams. That's the amount ECM also ships the C-Automatik 54 with.
Why a smaller hopper?
Because beans age with oxygen and light. If you only fill in as much as will be ground in the near future, you get more of what the roast has to offer.
Can I use it as a second hopper?
Yes, that's exactly what it's suited for. Two hoppers side by side let you use two roasts in parallel without having to empty one in between.
Can I see the product before buying?
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there. If you order online, delivery takes 2 to 4 working days throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
From the roastery
What goes into the hopper matters more than the hopper itself. For the vast majority, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight are our first choice: dense, full-bodied, sweet. If you want maximum body without acidity, fill it with Very Nutty; if you'd like to discover something fruity, Wild Peach. Beans from the supermarket work too – this is our recommendation, one of many.
