IMS All in One Sieb (E&B Lab) – espresso, filter & more from one basket

A dense espresso today, a clear filter coffee tomorrow, a café crème in between – all from the same basket. The All in One Sieb from E&B Lab isn't a classic espresso basket, it's a tool for anyone who wants to play with their machine.

Nobody needs it for good espresso – but if you have a machine with flow control or pressure profiling and enjoy experimenting, it opens up several brewing methods at once. That's one of many possible choices, and we respect it either way.

How it works

The secret is a dual-membrane construction: 257 round holes in the outer area, plus a photo-etched inner membrane with 150-micron filtering performance. This combination allows variable extraction speeds – from classic espresso to slower brewing methods. Through pressure profiling or flow control, you steer how the water flows, and with it, what ends up in the cup. Made from AISI 304 stainless steel, ridgeless (no rim groove), in Italy. E&B Lab – Espresso & Brewing Lab – is IMS's experimentation lab, where ideas like this take shape.

Two heights – H25 and H28

H25 (25 mm): for 14–18 g, fits standard and bottomless portafilters – the versatile standard. H28 (28 mm): for 17–21 g, suited only to bottomless portafilters (too tall for most standard portafilters), for higher doses and more body.

What you can brew with it

Espresso, filter coffee (brewing), café crème, Turkish espresso – and even cascara or tea (about 4 g cascara or 3 g leaf tea per roughly 200 ml). You choose the method through the extraction control; light roasts really shine.

Who it's for

For the curious, who enjoy experimenting and want to get several brewing methods out of one machine. A machine with pressure profiling or flow control is required. If you exclusively pull classic espresso or want a low-maintenance solution, you're better served by a standard competition basket – we say that honestly. Our opinion is one of many.

What goes with it

You can play out this basket's full potential on a machine with flow control or pressure profiling, plus a finely adjustable grinder. The bottomless portafilter is mandatory for the H28 version; a tamper (Normcore to Weber Workshops) creates the level puck. Important with the fine membrane: cleaning products. More baskets: precision baskets collection.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need flow control or pressure profiling?

Yes – the basket only shows its strength once you can control the extraction speed. Without pressure profiling or flow control, we recommend a classic competition basket.

H25 or H28 – which version?

H25 (25 mm, 14–18 g) fits standard and bottomless portafilters – the flexible standard. H28 (28 mm, 17–21 g) is only for bottomless portafilters and higher doses.

What drinks can I make?

Espresso, filter coffee, café crème, Turkish espresso, and even cascara or tea (about 4 g cascara or 3 g leaf tea per ~200 ml). You choose the method through the extraction control.

How do I clean the All in One Sieb?

The fine 150 µm membrane needs a bit of care: soak it regularly in coffee oil remover and let it dry completely before the next shot. It works most evenly when inserted dry.

Does it fit my machine?

It's compatible with all 58 mm E61 group heads – including La Marzocco, Rocket, ECM, Bezzera, Rancilio, Victoria Arduino, Slayer. The H28 version only in bottomless portafilters.

Roastery tip

This basket loves light roasts and playing with the method. From our coffee roastery, Wild Peach with its lively peach note pairs especially well – as espresso or as filter. If you like it dense and chocolatey, stick with Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight. Our recommendation – one of many.
