IMS Competition B702TCH28.5E – Convex, 58 mm, 18–22 g (Bottomless Only)
In a bottomless portafilter, the espresso gathers into a single, central stream – calm, glossy, focused. That is exactly what the convex base of this basket is built for: it deliberately guides the coffee towards the centre during extraction.
Nobody needs a competition basket to pull a good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want it because the extraction becomes clearer, rounder and more beautiful in a bottomless portafilter. That is one of many possible decisions, and we respect it either way.
What Makes This Basket Special
The "C" in the name stands for Convex: the convex base guides the flow to the centre and creates the focused central stream in a bottomless portafilter. The 715 round holes with a conical cross-section in a hexagonal pattern are a patented IMS innovation – for a dense crema and even flow right to the edge. Ridgeless and made of high-gloss polished AISI 304 stainless steel: less coffee residue, easier knocking out, a long service life. Espresso is extraction via a weight ratio, usually 1:2; what you taste is density, sweetness and a long finish. It is our observation that the choice of basket fundamentally changes the aroma profile.

Who It's For
For anyone who loves the focused central stream in a bottomless portafilter and doses high (18–22 g) – every budget is welcome. Important: at 28.5 mm high, this basket is intended exclusively for bottomless portafilters; it is too tall for most standard portafilters with a base. If you dose lower or use a standard portafilter, take a look at the flat Competition variants. You belong here because you love coffee – not because you run a particular basket.
What Goes with It
A must for this basket: a bottomless portafilter. For a level puck: the tamper collection – affordable with Normcore, premium with Weber Workshops. Against clumps beforehand: WDT tools. Plus the right grinder. All other baskets: precision baskets collection.

Can I see the basket before buying?
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there.
Roastery Tip
A consistent basket rewards dense, aromatic beans the most. From our coffee roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight pull through full-bodied and round – a beautiful, dense central stream in a bottomless portafilter. If you are looking for maximum body without any acidity, stay with Very Nutty; if you like it fruity, discover a lively peach note with Wild Peach. Our recommendation – one of many.
