MHW-3BOMBER Yu Series Impact Tamper 58.35 mm – an even tamp with automatic reset
You place your palm on the round head and press down. The springs inside give way, an audible signal tells you the tamp is done, and as soon as you let go, the tamper resets itself. A calm, always identical movement, shot after shot.
The Impact Tamper from the Yu Series by MHW-3BOMBER works with four springs. They keep the tamper level while you press, so the coffee bed is not compressed at an angle, and give an audible signal when the pressure is reached. The mechanism then resets automatically. The base measures 58.35 mm and is made for 58 mm portafilters. The tamper is made of SUS304 stainless steel, aluminium alloy and silicone and weighs about 450 g.
Flat or Ripple: two bases to choose from
The Yu Impact Tamper comes with two bases. Flat is a flat, smooth base. Ripple is a ribbed base with concentric grooves. Diameter and mechanism are the same on both. Which base suits you better is mostly a matter of taste.
Impact Tamper or Flash Tamper?
Both tampers take the guesswork out of tamping, but they feel different. With the MHW-3BOMBER Flash Tamper 2.0, three springs provide a constant 30 lbs, a click confirms the pressure, and the handle is made of walnut. Care
We wipe the base with a dry cloth after every tamp. Our recommendation: do not hold the tamper under water and do not take the mechanism apart yourself, so it stays dry and clean.

Tip from our café: Set the tamper down straight, press calmly until the signal and then let go instead of pressing further. In our experience, this makes the routine most consistent.
