You start your pour, the water hits the filter – the auto-timer automatically begins counting because the Pearl has registered the first drops. The flow-rate indicator at the top of the LED display shows a smooth arc of illuminated dots: your pouring speed is in the optimal range. You dose along this indicator, making minimal corrections, and the brew stays in rhythm. Four minutes later, you have a cup that you can reproduce – not because you were lucky, but because you saw what was happening on the scale.
The Pearl 2021 is the pour-over and filter coffee scale in the Acaia family. Larger than the Lunar – 160 × 160 mm weighing platform, 32 mm height – and designed for the brew bar rather than the drip tray. 0.1g resolution across the entire range up to 2000g. Stabilization time under one second. The weighing cell has been completely redesigned compared to the first Pearl generation – with industrial-grade components that stabilize faster and are less prone to fluctuations from vibrations. If you've ever poured with a standard kitchen scale and wondered why the reading constantly jumps around while pouring: that won't happen on the Pearl.
The flow-rate indicator is the most striking update of the 2021 version. Instead of showing the pouring speed only as a number in g/s, it is visualized as an LED array at the top of the display – the center is the ideal range, and the further out the LEDs illuminate, the faster the water flows. For pour-over, this is a learning tool: you see whether you are at the ideal pace while pouring, instead of guessing after the brew based on the total time. Enhancements such as an auto-start timer mode (timer starts with the first drop) and a Beverage Mode (guided brew with stages like "place filter," "dose coffee," "pour water") complete the range of functions.
Bluetooth 4.0, Acaia App (Brewmaster, Brewbar). The Pearl logs every brew; you can save, compare, and share recipes. If you want to reproduce what was good about the last excellent cup, the app provides all the data.
The housing is made of PC polymer, significantly larger than the Lunar (160 × 160 × 32 mm), with a net weight of 500g. The Pearl sits stably on any brew bar, and the weighing platform easily accommodates a Chemex, a V60 with server, a Kalita Wave, or an Aeropress. USB-C charging, lithium-ion battery with 30 to 40 hours of runtime – if you make one to two brews a day, you'll charge it once a quarter. The Pearl is not submersible but is water-resistant against splashes and condensation because its internal components are practically mounted "upside down."

For those who want to controllably improve their pouring speed with the flow-rate indicator – a learning tool that brings visibly better results within a few weeks. For cafes and brew bars looking for a reliable, app-connected scale for their filter station.
If you primarily make espresso and need a scale for the drip tray, the Acaia Lunar (15.5 mm flat, 105 × 105 mm) is a better choice. Those who do both often have both scales – the Lunar at the machine, the Pearl on the brew bar. If you're looking for a more affordable pour-over scale, the Normcore scales (exclusive Swiss importer) offer a version without app connectivity and a flow-rate indicator – with the core functions of weighing and timing.

The Pearl works with every manual brewing method. Classic combinations: Hario V60 or Switch, Chemex, Aeropress, French Press. For the right grinder for pour-over: Varia VS3 or VS6 with conical burrs (exclusive Swiss importer), Comandante C40 as a hand grinder, or Option-O Lagom 01 with Mizen Blind Burrs for light roasts.

Yes, a portafilter fits on the weighing surface. In portafilter mode with auto-tare, it also works for espresso – but: 32mm height is too high for most drip trays. If you primarily make espresso, you need the Lunar. The Pearl is designed for the brew bar.
30 to 40 hours in Bluetooth operation. One to two brews per day means charging every few months. USB-C charging – any standard cable and power adapter with 5V / 1A works. Higher voltages and too frequent charging can damage the battery (refer to the instruction manual).

On the Pearl, many pour-over brewers discover for the first time how different their pouring speed is from brew to brew. With Wild Peach as a V60, we see on the Pearl how a smooth, consistent pouring curve in the ideal flow-rate range cleanly brings out the peach note – if you pour too frantically, you get a duller cup, and the indicator shows it immediately. Cozy Chocolate as Aeropress or French Press is a reliable workflow on the Pearl – brew ratio, time, and weight directly on the display, no guessing. Those new to pour-over should use Beverage Mode for the first few weeks – the guided stages significantly accelerate the learning curve. This is our observation, one of many.
