Flair 49 PRO baskets – two paths to your espresso, from pre-ground to freshly ground
During the week it has to be simple: coffee into the Pressurized basket, a quick tamp, pull the lever. On Sunday, when the kitchen is quiet, you switch to the Bottomless basket, grind fresh and feel your way towards your beans, shot by shot. The same Flair 49 PRO, two very different moments.
Both baskets belong to the Flair 49 PRO and come with the machine. Here you can get them individually: as a replacement, as a second basket for everyday use, or for the day you move from pre-ground to freshly ground coffee.
Flair Espresso builds manual lever machines that work without a boiler or pump and put the espresso entirely in your hands. Flair lists Coffee Coaching Club as a dealer for Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and you’ll find the full range in our Flair Espresso collection.

Two baskets, two rituals
Pressurized: fill, tamp, pull
The Pressurized basket holds 10 to 15 g of pre-ground coffee. According to Flair, you need neither a burr grinder nor any grind adjustment: coffee in, tamp, brew. A lovely way into the world of manual levers, and a reliable companion for days when the coffee simply has to work out.
Bottomless: your path to fine-tuning
The Bottomless basket, which Flair also calls Non-Pressurized, holds 14 to 20 g of freshly ground coffee. Here the ground coffee alone builds up the resistance, which is why Flair assumes a burr grinder that grinds fine enough for espresso. In return you get full control: grind size, dose and lever pressure decide how your espresso tastes.
Espresso by taste, not by the clock
With the Bottomless basket we grind fine, start at 14.5 g and work our way up with the dose, usually to 17 g, at a ratio below 1:2 and always by weight. If hardly anything comes out, the grind is very fine: go a touch coarser. If the espresso tastes sour or bitter, in our experience a little more coffee often helps.
There are no espresso police. No two shots are alike, and that’s exactly what makes the manual lever so beautiful. The coffee has to taste good to you, nothing else counts.

Who the baskets are for
A good fit if you have a Flair 49 PRO and are looking for a replacement basket. A good fit if you’re starting with pre-ground coffee and want to keep the step to your own grinder open, because then both paths are right there next to the machine. And a good fit if a second basket simply keeps your mornings relaxed.
Our Filter Basket Finder shows you which basket suits your espresso, and for everything around the lever there’s our guide Lever espresso machine: espresso by hand. And if a question is still open: Jackson, our AI advisor, is there for you around the clock.
What goes with it
On top of the coffee bed goes the Flair 49 Etched Puck Screen, and you’ll find seals for the 49 PRO in the Flair O-Ring Sets. For weighing there’s the Flair coffee scale, and for milk drinks the Flair milk pitcher.
If you’d like to grind fresh for the Bottomless basket, you’ll find the right grinder among our coffee grinders. More baskets are waiting in our precision baskets and filter baskets, and everything around the lever in our lever espresso machines.

Frequently asked questions about the Flair 49 PRO baskets
Which basket is the right one for me?
If you don’t have a grinder or use pre-ground coffee, take the Pressurized basket for 10 to 15 g. If you grind fresh with a grinder that can grind for espresso, take the Bottomless basket for 14 to 20 g. Both come with the Flair 49 PRO, so you can switch at any time.
Do the baskets fit other 49 mm machines?
Flair specifies them for the Flair 49 PRO. Flair doesn’t say whether they fit another 49 mm portafilter. Baskets differ in height and shape depending on the portafilter, so compare them with your current basket first.
Hardly any espresso comes out of the Bottomless basket or it tastes sour – what can I do?
If hardly anything comes out, the grind is very fine: set your grinder a touch coarser. If it tastes sour or bitter, in our experience a little more coffee often helps. You’ll find more causes and solutions in our first aid for espresso machines, and the extraction simulator shows you how grind size and dose work together.
How much coffee goes into which basket?
Flair specifies 10 to 15 g of pre-ground coffee for the Pressurized basket and 14 to 20 g of freshly ground coffee for the Bottomless basket. In the Bottomless basket we start at 14.5 g and usually go up to 17 g, always by weight.
Can I see the Flair 49 PRO baskets in person before buying?
That depends on whether the baskets are on display right now. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) we show a large selection, but not the whole range – it’s too big for that, and the display changes. Drop us a quick line before your visit at [email protected], and we’ll check for you whether the baskets are in store at the moment.
Tip from the roastery: On a manual lever we like beans with plenty of body and sweetness. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight bring chocolate and nuts to the cup, Very Nutty maximum body without acidity. For the curious, Wild Peach is waiting as a fruity discovery in the Bottomless basket. You’ll find all our beans under coffee beans. That’s our recommendation, one of many.
