Flair 58 Plus 2 Baskets – High Dose and Low Dose for your Flair 58+2
The walnut handle feels warm in your hand, the basket sits snugly in the portafilter, and through the open bottom you can watch the first drop form. With the Flair 58 Plus 2, espresso is a ritual you experience with all your senses. Quietly, the baskets help decide where the journey in the cup goes.
High Dose with a straight wall for larger doses, Low Dose with a tapered edge for easier dialling in. Both come with the Flair 58 Plus 2 from the factory; here you can get them individually as a replacement or as a second basket.
Flair Espresso builds manual lever machines that need no boiler and no pump and put the espresso entirely in your hands. Flair lists Coffee Coaching Club as its dealer for Switzerland and Liechtenstein. You’ll find the machine as the Flair Espresso 58+2 and the full range in our Flair Espresso collection.

Two baskets, two characters
High Dose: straight wall for larger doses
The High Dose basket has straight walls and is made for larger doses. Flair recommends starting at 18 g. Depending on the bean and roast, it takes more too.
Low Dose: tapered and patient
The Low Dose basket has a tapered edge and fewer outlet holes. You grind coarser, and dialling in gets easier. Flair recommends starting at 15 g. A good companion for your first weeks with the machine and for beans you are just getting to know.
Espresso by taste, not by the clock
We grind fine, start at 14.5 g and work our way up with the dose, usually to 17 g, at a ratio below 1:2 and always by weight. That suits the Low Dose basket well; with the High Dose basket you tend to be at the upper end or above. In our experience, more coffee at the same ratio can soften acidity and bitterness, which is another reason to keep both baskets in the drawer.
If an espresso tastes bitter, take the temperature down a touch; if it tastes sour, a touch higher. There’s no espresso police – the coffee has to taste good to you.

Who the baskets are for
A good fit if you have a Flair 58 Plus 2 and want to replace a basket. A good fit if you want a second basket so you don’t have to empty and refill every time you switch between two beans. And a good fit if you like discovering how the same coffee changes in the cup with a different basket.
Our guide to the Flair Espresso 58+2 explains everything about the machine, and the Filter Basket Finder shows which basket suits your espresso. And if a question remains: Jackson, our AI advisor, is there for you around the clock.
What goes with it
On top of the coffee bed goes the Flair 58 Etched Puck Screen; for a particularly fine hole pattern there is the Flair 58 High Uniformity Basket. You’ll find seals in the Flair O-Ring Sets, and for travelling the Flair 58 Hard Travel Case in the version for the 58+2.
For an even coffee bed, there are distribution tools among the WDT Tools, more baskets among our precision and filter baskets and spare parts in the Flair spare parts collection.

Frequently asked questions about the Flair 58 Plus 2 baskets
High Dose or Low Dose – which basket suits me?
If you want easier dialling in and to work with a slightly coarser grind, take Low Dose and start at 15 g. For larger doses from 18 g, take High Dose. Both come with the Flair 58 Plus 2, so you can switch at any time.
What is the difference from the Flair 58 High-Flow and Low-Flow baskets?
Flair lists them as separate baskets with their own item numbers, and the descriptions are very similar. Flair does not state an exact difference, apart from the recommended start at 15 g for the Low Dose basket. For the 58+2, these baskets give you the version Flair intends for your machine.
My espresso tastes bitter or sour – is it the basket?
The basket is one of several factors. In our experience, a little more coffee often helps, and with bitterness also a touch less temperature, with acidity a touch more. If hardly anything comes out, grind a touch coarser. You will find more causes and solutions in our First Aid for espresso machines.
Where can I find help with my Flair 58 Plus 2?
Flair provides instructional videos for the Flair 58 Plus 2 on its website. Here with us, the guide to the Flair Espresso 58+2 helps you, you will find parts for your machine via Finding spare parts, and if something is faulty, you can reach us via Service & Repair.
Can I see the Flair 58 Plus 2 baskets live before buying?
That depends on whether the baskets are on display at the moment. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) we show a large selection, but not the whole range – it is too big for that, and the display changes. Drop us a short note at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check for you whether the baskets are currently there.
Tip from the roastery: For the Low Dose basket we like Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight, dense and round with chocolate and nut. In the High Dose basket, our light omniroasts Wild Peach and Bright Cassis show their fruit beautifully, in our experience. If you are looking for maximum body, you will find it in Very Nutty. You can find all beans under Coffee beans. That is our recommendation, one of many.
