The portafilter comes out of its holder, gets held under the grinder outlet, and the button gets pressed. Freshly ground coffee falls in a fine, loose cloud. Some of it lands in the basket. The original filling funnel from Flair Espresso for Classic and Signature sits precisely on the 58 mm portafilter of the standard models and enlarges the opening upward. The grounds land reliably where they should. No more crumb chase, no losses, no extra wiping after every shot.
What the Filling Funnel does
The principle is as simple as it is effective. Coffee grounds are extremely light and electrostatically charged right after grinding. Even the smallest air movement can send particles drifting off. A 58 mm basket, on the other hand, has a relatively small target area — especially when the grinder's chute sits higher and the grounds have some scatter angle. The Filling Funnel extends the top edge of the basket a few centimetres upward and creates a catch zone that keeps even the finest grind inside the basket.
This isn't a lifestyle question, it's a question of dosing precision. If you put 18.0 g into the funnel, you don't want to end up with 17.4 g in the basket because 0.6 g landed on the counter. The ratio of brew water to coffee is the single most important variable in espresso — a Filling Funnel keeps that ratio clean.

Who it's made for
For every owner of a Flair Classic or Flair Signature whose original funnel got lost, broken, or simply can't be found. The Filling Funnel is normally included with these models — available as a spare part or a second piece for a clean workflow. If you're getting the funnel for the first time because the counter needs a little clean-up round after every shot, you'll wonder how you managed without it.

What else fits
A Filling Funnel keeps things clean when filling. What comes before that, though, is what decides the grind quality. A good grinder is the biggest lever in manual espresso. Affordable and precise, we recommend the Comandante C40 as a hand grinder, or electric the VS3 from the Varia Collection. After filling comes distribution and tamping. A WDT tool spreads the grounds evenly in the basket and reduces channeling, a tamper presses cleanly. Both are available from Normcore (affordable, precise) and Weber Workshops (elevated feel). For an exact dose in the basket, a Normcore scale or an Acaia scale with Bluetooth and app helps.

What material is the Filling Funnel made of?
Polycarbonate – a light, impact-resistant plastic that's food-safe and handles temperature swings without issue.
Do I even need the Filling Funnel?
Filling a standard Flair with freshly ground coffee without a funnel regularly loses particles next to the basket. It's doable, but it's messy and imprecise. The Funnel solves that problem — it's not for nothing that it's part of the original package with Classic and Signature.
What's the difference to the Flair Preheat Funnel?
Two different tools. The Filling Funnel sits on the portafilter and helps with filling in coffee grounds. The Preheat Funnel sits on the brew cylinder and uses steam from the kettle to preheat — so the first cup doesn't come out too cool.
