Weber Workshops RoadRunner – No-Bypass Travel Brewer in Tritan

You flip open the handle, add ground coffee and hot water and pump the crown up and down a few times. The vacuum pulls the water through the coffee, and what ends up in your cup is clear and full-bodied – on the mountain, in the office, at the beach. No glass to break, no bitter residue in the carafe.

The Weber Workshops RoadRunner brings the BIRD's no-bypass vacuum method into a light, rugged travel format. The carafe is made of virgin Tritan, with a drive shaft and agitator in 304 stainless steel plus silicone seals. Coffee Coaching Club imports Weber Workshops.

    What Sets the RoadRunner Apart

As with the BIRD, nothing here relies on gravity: a vacuum you control pulls the water through the coffee bed, every drop passes through the coffee. No bypass, no diluted water. Because you control the pressure yourself, you can grind finer than with many other travel methods – that means more extraction and more body.

Add to that what the BIRD doesn't have: a bistable folding handle that locks in place for brewing and folds flat for packing, plus three built-in Bean Cellars with disposable freshness valves inside the carafe. That way you carry your doses right inside the device.

    RoadRunner or BIRD

In cup character, the two are close – the same no-bypass vacuum method, the same mix of clarity and body. The BIRD is the stationary piece in glass and brass, a ritual for home. The RoadRunner is the rugged travel version in Tritan, with a folding handle and Bean Cellars. If you travel a lot or want to brew without fear of breakage, take the RoadRunner; if you're looking for an object for the counter, the BIRD.

    What Goes with It

For travel, a compact hand grinder from our hand grinder selection is worthwhile, for example from Comandante or Timemore. You'll find replacement Abaca paper filters in the Weber Workshops Collection. Beans for the trip: our Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How does the RoadRunner differ from the BIRD?

Same no-bypass vacuum method and a similar cup character. The RoadRunner is made from unbreakable Tritan instead of glass, lighter, with a folding handle and three built-in Bean Cellars – made for travel.

Is the RoadRunner a French Press?

No. Only the shape is reminiscent of one. The RoadRunner pulls the water through the coffee by vacuum, allows finer grinding and filters more cleanly; after brewing, no bitter residue remains in the carafe.

Which filters does the RoadRunner use?

A reusable stainless steel mesh and Abaca paper filters from Cafec. Mesh gives more body, paper a clearer cup, and combining both works too. 150 paper filters in a tin are included.

Is the RoadRunner suitable for travel?

Yes, that's what it's built for: unbreakable Tritan, folding handle, neoprene sleeve and Bean Cellars for your doses. At around 330 g and 85 × 180 mm, it fits in a backpack or bag.

How fast is delivery in Switzerland?

2 to 4 working days throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein. Click and Collect is available in Bern and Zurich.

    Roastery Tip

On the road, the biggest variable is the water, not the device. If the cup tastes unfamiliar, it's usually the local water, not your dosing. Otherwise the same applies as at home: grind finer for more body, let it steep a bit longer for more sweetness. Our Cozy Chocolate is a rewarding travel companion because it stays round even under changing conditions. That's our recommendation, one of many.
