Cinoart PTB-MY Auto Tamper

You slide the portafilter into the fork, a quiet sensor responds, and in just over a second the stamp lowers – perfectly level, with exactly the pressure you set. No crooked puck, no tired wrist, no difference between the first shot and the fiftieth.

What the PTB-MY does

The Cinoart PTB-MY tamps automatically. You set the pressure digitally, from 2 to 38 kg in 1 kg steps, slide in the portafilter, and an optical sensor triggers the process without contact. The patented Guide Leveling System guides the stamp so it always meets the coffee grounds perfectly level. If you like, it compresses in one, two, or three cycles – that keeps grounds off the basket rim.

It's designed as an under-grinder solution for Mythos and Anfim grinders; with the included adapter plate, it also fits Compak and Markibar. This creates a continuous path from grinding to tamping, without ever setting the portafilter down.

The background: why level tamping matters

When hot water hits the puck at around 9 bar, it seeks the path of least resistance. A crooked or uneven tamp encourages channeling: water shoots through at the weakest point and over-extracts there, while the rest of the puck stays under-extracted. An evenly compressed puck lets water flow through more uniformly – the result is usually a denser body and a calmer crema. How large the effect is depends on grinder, bean, and recipe; that's our observation, one of many.

Said honestly

Nobody needs an auto tamper – tamping by hand works. The PTB-MY pays off where consistency and speed matter: with many shots back to back, with different people working the machine, or if you want to spare your wrist. At just under 6 kg and with a firm footprint, it's a device that earns its spot on the counter and keeps it.

Does the PTB-MY work with my grinder?

It's designed for Mythos and Anfim grinders; with the included adapter plate, also for Compak and Markibar. For other grinders, we're happy to check compatibility with you.

What pressure should I set?

A good starting point is around 20 kg; you adjust up or down based on roast level and taste. What matters is repeatability – the PTB-MY delivers the chosen pressure the same way every time. This is a guideline, one recommendation among many.

How do I clean the tamper?

Activate the cleaning mode daily, extend the stamp, and brush it off. The non-stick coating keeps coffee grounds from sticking.

Can I see the auto tamper in person before buying?

Yes, in our showrooms in Bern and Zürich. Delivery takes 2 to 4 business days throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
