Nobody needs a special basket for good espresso – the original basket does its job. You want it because the cup becomes sweeter, rounder, and more even. This is one of many possible choices, and we respect both directions.
What makes this basket special
The Big Bang is IMS' latest idea: 585 holes concentrated towards the center of the basket – the distance between the holes increases towards the edge. This precisely directs the flow centrally, ensuring an extraordinarily even extraction across the entire puck, which prevents channeling. You taste the result as significantly more sweetness, while the acidity recedes – caramel, chocolate, and nut are in the foreground. The holes are Ø 0.30 mm with a conical cross-section; the basket is ridgeless, has a flat bottom, and an electropolished, easy-to-clean surface. Espresso is extraction via a weight ratio, usually 1:2; taste and smell are inseparable, a large part originates retronasally. It is our observation that the choice of basket fundamentally changes the aroma profile.

Designed for the bottomless portafilter; the 23.5 mm height usually also fits standard portafilters.
