The ground coffee falls directly into the magnetic dosing cup, an integrated dose finisher collects the last crumbs. What remains is virtually nothing. Single dose in, single dose out.
The Philos is Mazzer's first single-dose grinder, bringing over 75 years of experience from Scorzè near Venice into a compact housing – built for those who switch between espresso, filter, and batch brew without purging between beans. As a Mazzer partner, we offer the Philos in two housing colors.
The flat burrs are mounted vertically. Together with the auger feeder, they guide the beans evenly into the grinding burrs – this reduces popcorning and ensures a consistent particle distribution.
Because the ground coffee falls directly downwards following gravity, almost nothing gets stuck: less than half a gram, with the vertical burrs down to about 0.1 grams. What you grind today is not mixed with yesterday's.
In stepped mode, the setting locks in fine 6-micron steps and remains repeatable; in stepless mode, you adjust infinitely. Espresso in the morning, pour-over in the afternoon – without losing your espresso setting.
The 58mm dosing cup magnetically locks under the spout, and the integrated dose finisher cleanly taps out the last crumbs.
Magnetic front panel off, loosen two wing nuts by hand, remove burrs – no recalibration is necessary afterwards.
The motor runs at a low frequency, a damping design reduces vibrations, and an anti-static design keeps the work surface clean. The power cable disappears into its own compartment.
The Philos uses Mazzer's 64mm flat burrs, available in two factory-seasoned profiles made of food-grade stainless steel. Both are suitable for espresso and filter; they just emphasize different characteristics:
Designed for clarity in the cup: clearly separated fruit and floral notes, balanced, pleasant acidity, and medium body. Ideal for light to medium roasts and filter coffee.
Designed for a full, velvety mouthfeel: rich body, deep sweetness, notes of chocolate and nut. Ideal for classic Italian espresso and medium to dark roasts.
Switching between profiles is tool-free and takes just a few minutes; the burrs are also available individually in our Mazzer collection. Flat burrs generate more heat at the same speed than conical burrs; Mazzer has tuned the motor and speed profile for single-dose quantities so that the temperature remains stable – you grind 18 grams, not a whole hopper.

Vertically mounted 64mm flat burrs with auger feed, two burr profiles (I200D and I189D), virtually zero retention down to about 0.1 grams, dual-mode adjustment with 6-micron steps or stepless, magnetic 58mm dosing cup with integrated dose finisher, tool-free access to the grinding chamber without recalibration, 400W asynchronous motor with low operating frequency, anti-static and damping design, and a housing made of stainless steel, brass, and anodized aluminum with approximately 12.5 kg of stability.
The Philos is for everyone who wants single-dosing and prefers the taste of flat burrs – clarity and texture at the same time – and switches between espresso, filter, and batch brew without purging. With espresso, there is no "right" or "wrong": grind size, dose, and ratio are adjustment screws with which you can find your taste. A common starting point is 1:2, i.e., about 18g of ground coffee to about 36g of espresso. If, on the other hand, you pull many shots from a filled bean hopper throughout the day and want grind-by-weight, you'll find suitable hopper models in our Mazzer collection.
The Philos works with any machine with a 58mm portafilter – for example, from the La Marzocco, ECM, Profitec, or Rocket Espresso collections; for lever extraction Flair Espresso. You can find the matching canister for 53mm and 58mm portafilters as well as replacement burrs in the Mazzer collection. For puck preparation, a WDT tool from the Normcore series, for airtight storage Airscape, and for precise coffee water Apax Labs. Unsure about the combination? Our machine and grinder consultation can help.
The workflow, adjustment, and loudness of a single-dose grinder are best experienced firsthand. Come by, and we'll show you the Philos in operation – feel free to bring your own beans.

With the I189D burrs, you can get a dense, chocolatey-nutty espresso with a lot of body from Nutty Delight, Cozy Chocolate, or Very Nutty – in a cappuccino, this depth carries beautifully through the milk. With the I200D burrs, a brighter, lively profile like Wild Peach or Bright Cassis is worthwhile: fruit and fine acidity emerge more clearly. Experiment in small steps. All beans can be found in our coffee bean selection. This is our recommendation, one of many.
I200D if you're looking for clarity and freshness – light to medium roasts, filter coffee, fruity profiles with pleasant acidity. I189D if you prefer body and texture – classic espresso, medium to dark roasts, and milk drinks. Both are 64mm flat burrs from Mazzer production and are tool-free interchangeable; available individually in our Mazzer collection.
In stepped mode, the adjustment locks in 6-micron steps, allowing you to reliably find a setting again. In stepless mode, you adjust continuously. The Philos can do both; in everyday use, the stepped mode is most practical for most people.
Virtually zero. Thanks to the single-dose principle and vertical burrs, less than half a gram remains, and with the Dose Finisher, the residue drops to about 0.1 grams.
Quiet for a grinder of this type. The motor runs at a low frequency, and a damping design reduces vibrations. In the showroom, it runs without disturbing conversations.
The included dosing cup is designed for 58mm and fits common 58mm portafilters. For 53mm portafilters, there is a matching Philos Canister in our Mazzer collection.
