Option-O Lagom P80 – 80 mm flat burr grinder for single dosing
The Option-O Lagom P80 grinds with 80 mm Mizen burrs and an integrated pre-breaker, quietly and with near-zero retention, for espresso and filter.
You pour a single dose of beans into the hopper. An auger feeds them into the pre-breaker, which is built directly into the burrs, and only then do the 80 mm burrs grind at the RPM you have chosen on the dial. At the end the grinder switches itself off, the purge function clears the chamber, and the grounds sit loose and fluffy in the portafilter. Tomorrow a different bean, and practically nothing from today stays behind.
The P80 takes on the familiar shape of the Lagom P64, while the inside is completely redesigned. Option-O was founded in Melbourne, Australia. Coffee Coaching Club is a partner of Option-O in Switzerland.
What is new about the Lagom P80?
Mizen burrs with integrated pre-breaker
At its heart is the new Mizen 80OM set, designed for juicy, sweet extractions with high clarity and complex depth. Inspired by Option-O's Preliminary Crushing System (PCS), which pre-breaks beans for greater uniformity, a pre-breaker is integrated directly into the burrs. An auger gently feeds the beans into the pre-breaker before they are ground. Together with the adjustable RPM, this results in more uniform particle sizes and more control over the flavour profile.
Magnetic burr mount
On the P80, a magnetic blind-mount system holds the burrs. Swapping them requires no screws and stays repeatable. Balanced magnets and a carrier with tight tolerances hold the burrs securely, minimise movement and preserve alignment. The system also accepts two-screw burrs and 3-pin magnetic burrs, should you want to use other sets.
Completely redesigned internals
The shape of the Lagom P64 remains, but everything inside is new: grinding chamber, burr carrier, electronics, housing and hopper. The upper assembly is a single part. Loose springs and separate carrier bearings are gone, making cleaning and disassembly easier. The 500 W brushless DC motor delivers almost double the torque density on the same compact footprint, without getting louder.
Zero-point calibration in seconds
The magnetic mount and the one-piece upper assembly turn a burr swap into a matter of a few minutes, and zero-point calibration is done in seconds. A built-in safety zero limiter protects the burrs from accidental damage. If you want full control, you can remove it.
The details in everyday use
Well-thought-out workflow
A redesigned knocker, matched to the inclined grinding chamber, clears residue more effectively. Static is significantly reduced; depending on the bean and environment you do not need the water droplet method (RDT), and the grounds stay loose. A purge function automatically raises the RPM at the end of grinding and empties the chamber. The portafilter fork has been reworked for 58 mm portafilters and still accepts dosing cups.
RPM dial with numbered scale
The stepped dial ranges from 300 to 1700 revolutions per minute and adjusts quickly with a tactile feel. The steps ensure repeatability, while fine-tuning remains possible. Lower RPM emphasises clarity and acidity, higher RPM brings more depth and mouthfeel.
Auto-off and purge mode
A multifunction button controls grinding. A torque sensor detects when the beans are fully ground and switches the grinder off. Purge mode starts automatically or with a double press. Even at maximum RPM, the P80 stays quiet.
The familiar Lagom experience
Precise alignment, a well-thought-out workflow and a footprint that fits in any kitchen. Plus near-zero retention, a build made for daily use over many years, and parts you can maintain yourself.
How the pre-breaker shows in the cup
Without a pre-breaker, whole beans hit the burrs directly. On the P80, the pre-breaker first breaks them into larger pieces, which then enter the grinding zone more evenly. Option-O names more uniform particle sizes and more control over the flavour profile as the result.
According to Option-O, the 80OM burrs are not classic espresso burrs but are designed for versatility: strongest with light specialty roasts, and also well suited to medium to medium-dark roasts. If you prefer classic espressos with plenty of body, you may find more texture on a grinder with a different burr geometry. To us, burr sets are like engines: there is no objectively best one. That is our view, one of many.

Who the Lagom P80 is made for
Option-O built the P80 for coffee lovers at home who want large flat burrs in a compact, quiet machine and consistently grind one dose at a time. If you switch between espresso and filter, you benefit from the near-zero retention and the wide grind range.
For everyone who wants single dosing affordable and precise: the electric grinders from Varia or a hand grinder from Comandante. If you want more: further models from Varia, Weber Workshops or the larger grinders from Option-O. The three 80 mm class grinders in direct comparison: EG-1 vs. Lagom P80 vs. Lagom 01. Frequently asked questions
What does the integrated pre-breaker of the Lagom P80 do?
An auger feeds the beans into a pre-breaker that is integrated directly into the Mizen 80OM burrs. The beans are pre-broken before they are ground. According to Option-O, this results in more uniform particle sizes and more control over the flavour profile.
Is the Lagom P80 suitable for espresso and filter?
Yes. The grind range goes from Turkish to French press, and retention is near zero, so you can switch between brewing methods. According to Option-O, the 80OM burrs are strongest with light roasts and also work with medium to medium-dark roasts.
How loud is the Lagom P80?
Quiet. Option-O designed the housing and drive for low noise despite the larger motor. Apart from the sound of the beans, the grinder runs smoothly even at maximum RPM in purge mode, and the heavy metal housing dampens vibrations.
Can I change the burrs of the Lagom P80?
Yes. Mizen 80OM burrs are fitted at the factory. The mount accepts 3-pin magnetic burrs and two-screw burrs in 80 mm format. The swap takes a few minutes, zero-point calibration a few seconds.
What is the difference from the Lagom P64?
The P80 has 80 mm instead of 64 mm burrs with an integrated pre-breaker, a magnetic burr mount, a stepped RPM dial, a new knocker, auto-off, a purge function, less static, a one-piece upper assembly and an integrated power cable. According to Option-O, the P64 remains a very good grinder and a platform with a wide choice of burrs.
Can I see the Lagom P80 before buying?
In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) we show a wide selection, and the display changes. Write to us at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the P80 is currently on display. If you want to test grinders side by side, book the Espresso Machine and Grinder Comparison.
Tip from the roastery: For dense, chocolatey espresso, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight are a good match, on the P80 preferably with higher RPM for more body. For maximum body without acidity: Very Nutty. If you want to discover a fruity experience, grind Wild Peach at lower RPM. That is our recommendation, one of many.
