Founded in the USA in 2016, Flair Espresso has brought the manual espresso principle into a modern, design-oriented form. You press the lever by hand to build pressure – no pump, no electricity, complete pressure control. Coffee Coaching Club is the exclusive Swiss importer for Flair Espresso and carries the complete range.
Three characteristics define the brand. Firstly, the manual concept without electricity: water comes from an external temperature-controlled kettle, you press the lever for extraction – perfect for travelers, outdoor setups, off-grid hotels, and home setups with a tactile preference. Secondly, the pressure profiling capability: the Flair 58 with pressure gauge and full manual control allows for pre-infusion, slow buildup, strong middle phase – just like premium machines with electronic flow control, but with direct tactile feedback. Thirdly, the broad ecosystem: the Flair family covers everything from entry-level (NEO Flex, Classic) to premium (Flair 58X with Pressure Profiling) – plus the Wizard Steamer as an external stovetop milk frother.
58 mm standard portafilter (compatible with countless premium baskets and tampers), pressure gauge, full manual pressure profiling control. For specialty coffee setups with specialty roasts. Multiple color configurations.
The established Pro class with classic lever workflow. Robust design, good price-performance ratio.
Classic as a traditional manual lever entry. NEO Flex as an even more compact travel companion – lighter, more compact, ideal for backpackers or hotel setups.
The Flair Wizard Steamer is a milk frother that is heated on the stovetop and delivers professional microfoam – without electricity, without an integrated steam wand. Ideal as an addition to manual lever machines.
The complete Flair ecosystem in the Flair spare parts collection – lever components, seals, brew cylinders, wooden accents.
Travelers and frequent commuters who need good espresso on the go without machine investment. Home baristas with a tactile preference – those who prefer tactile pressure feedback over electronic convenience. Off-grid setups, cabin trips, hotel stays. Specialty coffee enthusiasts who use pressure profiling on the Flair 58 as a setup addition alongside their pump machine. Beginners in the specialty espresso universe without immediate investment in a large machine.
For alternative manual lever concepts: Aram (Brazilian wood design), Superkop (Dutch engineering). For classic Italian spring-lever machines with boilers: Bezzera Strega. Flair is the design-oriented American choice with the broadest ecosystem.
Since Flair has neither a pump nor a boiler, you need certain items for the full workflow. Temperature-controlled kettle: Brewista Artisan, Varia AURA or HARIO V60 Buono. For milk frothing: Flair Wizard Steamer on the stove or Subminimal NanoFoamer. Precise manual grinder for espresso grind: 1Zpresso K-Plus or J-Max, Kinu M47, Comandante with Espresso Clix. Espresso scale: Acaia Lunar or Pearl S. 58 mm Tamper: Tamper Collection.
For manual lever alternatives: Aram, Superkop. For wooden accents matching the Flair: Wiedemann with Flair-specific components. For precision 58 mm baskets: IMS. For cups: Loveramics. For beans from our own roastery: CCC-Own Roasts with Cozy Chocolate, Nutty Delight, Wild Peach, and Bright Cassis – light specialty roasts show particularly nuanced flavors with pressure profiling on the Flair 58.
Travel and absolute entry-level: NEO Flex. Classic manual lever workflow: Classic or Pro 2. Specialty coffee with pressure profiling on a 58 mm standard portafilter: Flair 58X or 58+.
Fresh beans with good crema potential are ideal. On the Flair 58, light specialty roasts like Wild Peach or Bright Cassis come through particularly nuanced with tactile pressure profiling. Classic roasts like Cozy Chocolate also work.
For espresso on Flair, slightly coarser than on pump machines – the pressure build-up phase is slower. With 1Zpresso K-Plus, typically 1.5–2 clicks coarser than on an ECM Synchronika or La Marzocco. Adjust according to brewing time.
92–95 °C for classic roasts. For particularly light roasts, 95–97 °C. Fill freshly from the temperature-controlled kettle into the brew cylinder.
With normal home use, several years. Seals are available as spare parts in the Flair spare parts collection.
