Italian Espresso Machines

Buy Italian Espresso Machines in Switzerland – from Bezzera to La Marzocco

Italy invented espresso. In 1901, Luigi Bezzera registered the first patent in Milan for a pressure machine that forced water through ground coffee with steam. Within two decades, this led to the espresso culture that is now replicated worldwide. And Italy has never given up the craft. Bezzera, La Marzocco (Florence, 1927), Victoria Arduino (1905), Elektra (1947), and Quick Mill (1945) are still producing today, some in the same region, some in the same families.

What characterizes an Italian machine is less a uniform style than a common design language: solid construction, clear simplicity, traditional E61 brew groups or lever mechanisms, high-quality stainless steel and brass interior. Repairability for decades is built-in, not added on. Coffee Coaching Club carries the complete Italian cluster of machines and matching grinders – from entry-level home setups for under CHF 1,000 to 3-group commercial machines for over CHF 20,000.

The Brands in the Cluster – Briefly Classified

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Italian brand suits which budget?

Roughly: up to CHF 1,500 – Lelit Anna, La Pavoni Casa Bar, Lelit Glenda, Quick Mill POP (single boiler and thermoblock). CHF 1,500–3,000 – Bezzera Magica/BZ16/ARIA, Lelit Mara X/Elizabeth, Rocket Appartamento, Quick Mill Anita/Andreja (HX and compact dual boiler). CHF 3,000–7,000 – Lelit Bianca, Rocket R Nine One, Quick Mill Vetrano 2B, Bezzera Matrix Top, La Marzocco Linea Micra (premium home). From CHF 7,000 – La Marzocco GS3/Linea Mini, Sanremo YOU, Victoria Arduino Eagle One Prima EXP.

What is the difference between E61 and a proprietary brew group?

E61 is a standard brew group from the 1960s, mechanically mature, installed in many Italian machines (Bezzera, Rocket, Quick Mill, older Lelit). Advantage: globally available spare parts, decades of repairability. Manufacturers like La Marzocco (Saturated Group), Slayer, and newer Lelit models (Bianca) use their own brew group designs with additional features such as pre-infusion control or flow control. Sanremo also has its own brew group, the SR61, with an electrically heated, PID-controlled design.

What does PID mean in Italian machines?

Proportional Integral Derivative – an electronic temperature control that keeps the boiler at a set temperature (typically 91–96 °C). Without PID, the temperature fluctuates more, which affects the taste. PID is now standard on most Italian premium home machines, and still optional on some single boilers.

Are Italian machines durable?

With proper care, yes, often over 20 years. Copper boilers, brass components, and stainless steel casings are designed to be repairable. Important: regular descaling with soft water (ideally: filtered via Brita or similar), and backflushing for machines with E61. Spare parts are generally available for decades.

Do I need water softening?

With Swiss tap water, usually yes – most regions have medium-hard to hard water. We recommend a Brita filter or a specific Aquaclean cartridge, depending on the machine. During the consultation, we'll clarify this based on your postal code.

What differentiates the Linea Mini R from the Linea Micra?

Both are La Marzocco home models, both dual boilers. Linea Mini R (R for Rotation Pump, 2024 generation): more compact cafe icon, classic operation, higher cup capacity. Linea Micra: the smaller version for home setups with limited space, same La Marzocco character. You can compare both directly in the showroom.

What differentiates Lelit Mara X from Bianca?

Mara X is an HX machine (heat exchanger) with an E61 brew group – accessible operation, classic espresso character. Bianca is Lelit's premium dual boiler model with a paddle for flow control – hands-on pressure profiling in a machine significantly below La Marzocco GS3 level. Bianca is a good step before switching to La Marzocco or Slayer.

How does the Sanremo YOU compare to classic Italian dual boilers?

The YOU has the SR61 brew group – electrically heated with its own 300W heater and PID control, without thermosiphon and without heat exchanger. Unlike E61 or Saturated Group, the brew group's temperature is controlled independently of the boiler. Plus a variable rotary pump (0–12 bar) for pressure profiling and a touch display with live pressure and live flow as a graph.

Can I test Italian machines in Switzerland?

Yes, in the showrooms in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon. We have the common models from Bezzera, Lelit, Rocket, Quick Mill, Sanremo, and La Marzocco on site. Please arrange an appointment briefly beforehand, then the machines will be heated up and ready with your desired beans.

Is Swiss service available for Italian machines?

Yes. Coffee Coaching Club is the Swiss partner for all featured Italian brands (La Marzocco, Rocket, Bezzera, Lelit, Sanremo, Quick Mill, Victoria Arduino). We coordinate service cases through Swiss workshops or direct manufacturer contact. Original spare parts are available through CCC or via the manufacturer.
