The flat tamper „Bubinga wood“ with a handle made of bubinga wood.
The flat stainless steel base presses the coffee grounds level, so the water flows evenly through the puck instead of finding a fast path. The high rim of around two centimetres sits centred on the 58 mm portafilter without slipping while you press, and the handle unscrews for cleaning. The tamper is made in Italy – Metallurgica Motta has been building tools like this since 1967.
Level compaction is the basis for even extraction – and that in turn for a drink that tastes good. Which look you hold in your hand is a matter of taste: the function is the same across all variants, you choose the design. Nobody needs a particular pattern – you want it. Our opinion is one of many.

For anyone with a 58 mm portafilter who wants to compact the coffee grounds level – and likes to decide for themselves which look sits on the counter. The flat base is the classic choice for even compaction.
The tamper is part of the puck before the shot: even grinding happens in our coffee grinders, extraction at your espresso machine. Our advice tool helps with the choice.
If you’d like to compare tampers and accessories: affordable and precise is the Normcore Collection, while the Weber Workshops Collection shows the especially finely crafted side. You’ll find more models in our Tamper Collection.
For 58 mm portafilters. The high rim sits centred and does not slip while you press.
The handle is bubinga wood with a lively grain, the base is stainless steel. Wooden handles are best wiped only with a damp cloth.
A flat base compacts the grounds level, a convex one more towards the centre. There is no right or wrong – many prefer the flat base for even compaction. In the end, what matters is that the cup tastes good.
Gladly. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can experience it live. Online we deliver in 2–4 working days, throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
An evenly tamped puck deserves full-bodied beans. Our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight bring chocolate and nutty notes. For maximum body without acidity the Very Nutty, for a fruity experience the Wild Peach. That’s our recommendation – one of many.
