Mahlkönig EK43 S – compact 98mm all-round grinder for espresso and filter
An espresso in the morning, a pour-over in the afternoon, maybe a French Press in between – all from one grinder: the EK43 S grinds from Turkish-fine to coarse, cleanly separated, with a uniformity that comes through in the cup as clarity and a long, round finish. It's exactly this versatility that has made the EK family legendary.
The EK43 S brings the large 98mm grinding mechanism of the iconic EK43 into a more compact housing – ideal for smaller coffee bars that prioritize particle consistency. As a partner of Mahlkönig, we align it to your brewing method and support you with the settings.
What makes the EK43 S special
98mm hardened cast steel
The large, glass-bead blasted burrs made of hardened cast steel (64–66 HRC) produce an exceptionally even particle distribution – the basis for high, clean extractions with fewer off-flavors.
A true all-rounder
From Turkish-fine through espresso to filter, French Press or Cold Brew: the stepless adjustment covers almost every brewing method.
Stepless with a zero point
The grind adjustment runs steplessly with no detents; the zero point can be recalibrated – so you can find every setting again precisely.
Vertical burrs, low retention
The vertically positioned burrs are easily accessible and retain almost no ground coffee – which suits single-dosing.
High grinding capacity, compact
At 19–21 g/s, the EK43 S works quickly, yet needs noticeably less counter space than the classic EK43.
Long service life
The burrs are rated for around 6000 kg of throughput – a grinder built for many years of operation.
When brewing, there's no "right" or "wrong": grind size, dose, and ratio are the dials you use to find your taste. For espresso, 1:2 is a common starting point, meaning about 18 g of ground coffee to roughly 36 g of espresso; in filter, the EK43 S shows off its uniformity especially well.

Roastery Tip
In filter, the EK43 S shows off its clarity. We recommend Nutty Delight as a rounded all-rounder and Very Nutty as a strong, full-bodied filter; Cozy Chocolate stays chocolatey and dense in espresso. Anyone looking for a fruitier cup will find it with Wild Peach or Bright Cassis on the livelier side. All beans can be found in our coffee bean selection. This is our recommendation, one of many.
