MOTTA Bubinga Wood Flat Tamper 58 mm – stainless steel flat base, made in Italy

The warm, lively grain of Bubinga wood turns every handle into a one-of-a-kind piece – and beneath it, the flat stainless steel base presses the grounds level.

The flat tamper „Bubinga wood“ with a handle made of Bubinga wood.

What makes this tamper

The flat stainless steel base presses the coffee grounds into an even layer, so water flows through the puck evenly instead of finding the fastest path through. The tall rim, roughly two centimetres high, centres itself on the 58 mm portafilter without shifting as you press, and the handle unscrews for cleaning. The tamper is made in Italy – Metallurgica Motta has been building tools like this since 1967.

An even, level tamp is the foundation for an even extraction – and that, in turn, is the foundation for a drink that tastes good. Which look you hold in your hand is a matter of taste: the function is the same across every variant, the design is yours to choose. Nobody needs a particular pattern – you want it, or you don't. Our opinion is just one of many.

Who it's for

For anyone with a 58 mm portafilter who wants to tamp the coffee grounds level – and likes deciding for themselves which look sits on the counter. The flat base is the classic choice for an even tamp.

What you pair it with

The tamper plays its part in the puck before the shot: even grinding happens in our coffee grinders, the shot is pulled on your espresso machine. Our advisory tool helps you choose.

If you like comparing tampers and accessories: affordable and precise is the Normcore Collection, while the Weber Workshops Collection shows the especially finely crafted side. More models are waiting in our Tamper Collection.

Frequently asked questions

Which portafilter size does the tamper fit?

58 mm portafilters. The tall rim centres itself and doesn't shift as you press.

What material is the handle made of?

The handle is made of Bubinga wood with a lively grain, the base of stainless steel. Wooden handles are best wiped clean with a damp cloth only.

Flat or convex – what's the difference?

A flat base tamps the grounds level, a convex one presses more towards the centre. There's no right or wrong here – many prefer the flat base for an even tamp. In the end, what matters is that the cup tastes good.

Can I see the tamper in person before buying?

Of course, you can experience it live in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Online we deliver in 2–4 business days, across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.

A tip from our coffee roastery

An evenly tamped puck deserves full-bodied beans. Our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight bring chocolate and nutty notes. For maximum body without any acidity, the Very Nutty, for a fruity experience, the Wild Peach. That's our recommendation – one of many.
