The cap that finishes off the portafilter handle
The portafilter is the part of the machine that gets handled the most – inserted, locked, released and knocked out several times a day. The cap on the handle is the part that closes it off on the outside and covers the joint between the handle and the portafilter body. It carries no load and holds no pressure, but it is constantly in your hand.
And after years, that is exactly what it shows: edges turn dull, the surface picks up marks from knocking out, and when the fastening gives way, it turns loosely on the handle. Our documentation lists it as a cap for the portafilter in the new version – it does not say which model series are built with this version.
When it's due
The cap no longer sits firmly and can be turned or pulled off by hand. It is cracked or chipped at an edge, usually after a fall or from knocking out against a hard edge. The surface is so worn that the handle looks old next to a second machine. Or it is missing entirely and the end of the handle is exposed.

Who it's for
For anyone whose portafilter cap has come loose, cracked or gone missing – and for anyone giving a used machine a visual refresh. Because our documentation does not name the model series of the new version, it is worth sending us a short message with the model, year of manufacture and a photo of the end of the handle before ordering. Then we will tell you whether the cap fits.

We don't just tap a loose cap back on; we take the portafilter apart and look at the fastening – if you only press the cap on, it will be back in your hand two weeks later. That is our sequence in Bern and Zurich, not a manufacturer specification. For the test shot afterwards, we use Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight, and for maximum body without acidity, Very Nutty. No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured specifically for each order and cannot be resold after installation or a test fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a quick message and we will clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.

What does “new” mean for this cap?
The item name describes it as the new version, as opposed to an older one. Our documentation does not tell us which model series and years of manufacture have which version. Send us a photo of the end of the handle and we will compare.
Does it fit my portafilter?
That depends on the version of your portafilter, and that is not in any list we have. Send us the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine, and we will check it before you order.
Is there a part number for it?
No. None of our documentation gives a part number for this cap, and we won't make one up here.
Is replacing it a job for a professional?
The portafilter is not opened for this and is not under pressure as long as it is not locked into the group. Anyone replacing the cap is working on the detached portafilter – that is not work on the machine. If you have questions about the fastening, just get in touch.
