MHW-3BOMBER Flash Tamper 53.35 mm – calibrated tamper for Sage and Breville
On the compact 54 mm stage of your Sage or Breville, every millimeter counts. Set the tamper down, press, and a quiet click confirms it: the pressure is right, right now. That way the puck sits the same shot after shot – no guessing.
The 53.35 mm version of the Flash – a precise fit for the 54 mm group heads of Sage and Breville.
Why even tamping counts
During the shot, water looks for the easiest path through the puck. If it's compacted unevenly, the water moves faster where it's looser – extraction becomes uneven. A consistent, always equally firm tamp lays the foundation for a well-rounded shot, especially on the smaller 54 mm surface, where differences matter even more.
The Flash works with a three-spring system that holds a constant pressure of around 30 lbs; the quiet click gives the signal as soon as that point is reached. A 15 lb spring is included for lighter pressure. The titanium base is robust, has an antistatic effect and holds back less loose grounds, while the handle combines wood and metal. Tamping is a craft, not a rulebook – the Flash just makes it more repeatable. Our opinion is one of many.

Who it's for
For anyone with a Sage or Breville machine in the 54 mm format who wants their tamp to be even and repeatable. The audible click brings confidence, without having to keep track of the pressure in your head.
What you pair it with
An even tamp works together with the rest of your setup. Affordable tamping stations, puck screens and WDT tools are in the Normcore Collection and especially finely crafted ones in the Weber Workshops Collection.
More tampers to compare are in our Tamper Collection. And because the best tamp only really pays off with the right machine, it's worth taking a look at our espresso machines – supported by our advisory tool.
Frequently asked questions
Why 53.35 mm and not 54 mm?
The filter baskets of Sage and Breville measure just under 54 mm on the inside. A 53.35 mm tamper fits cleanly and leaves less grounds standing at the edge.
How does the click feedback work?
As soon as around 30 lbs is reached, the mechanism gives off a quiet click – so every tamp lands with the same force.
Can I adjust the pressure?
Yes. Alongside the standard spring, a 15 lb spring is included in case you prefer to work with lighter pressure.
Can I see the tamper in person before buying?
Very happily — you can experience it live in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Online, we deliver in 2–4 business days, throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
Tip from our coffee roastery
An even tamp really shows in full-bodied, sweet roasts. Our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight taste round and forgive a lot. For maximum body without acidity, the Very Nutty, for a fruity experience, the Wild Peach. That's our recommendation – one of many.
