Eureka Mignon Libra 65 All Purpose – Grind-by-Weight Grinder for Espresso and Filter

Espresso in the morning. A little sugar, lots of milk – you know your ratio. A V60 at midday, clear and lively, same beans but a completely different grind size. French press or Aeropress on the weekend. And because the large adjustment dial on the grinder has a revolution counter, you know exactly where you were for this morning's espresso and where to return for filter. One grinder, several worlds, no drama.

What sets the Libra 65 All Purpose apart

The Libra 65 All Purpose is the honest answer to a simple question: what if someone doesn't drink only espresso? Four things set it apart from the smaller Libra 55 – and from almost everything else in the same price range on the market.

First: 65-millimetre flat burrs instead of 55. The larger grinding surface breaks down beans evenly across a wider range of particle sizes – which makes it equally suited to fine espresso grinding and coarser filter grinding. Eureka calls this geometry "All Purpose": a deliberately wide setup rather than an espresso specialisation.

Second: Blind Upper Burr. The upper burr no longer has screw holes. Sounds small, is huge: coffee grounds no longer get stuck in the holes, retention drops, and every new grind delivers fresh powder instead of yesterday's leftovers.

Third: Instant Grind Weighing Technology. Like the Libra 55, the 65 AP grinds by weight, not by time. A precision scale sits in the portafilter holder, tares your empty portafilter or the included All Purpose Cup, and measures in real time how much grounds are falling in. Once you reach your target weight, it stops. Two programmes can be saved plus a continuous mode.

Fourth: King-Size Dial with revolution counter. Probably the most important change in daily use. Instead of a stepless knob under the motor, a large, easy-to-grip aluminium adjustment dial with a counter sits on top of the grinder. Moving from espresso at "3.5" to filter at "12.2" and back again happens with no notes, no forgetting, no re-dialling. Patent pending, made at Conti Valerio in Sesto Fiorentino near Florence.

65-millimetre flat burr, hardened steel, 1350 revolutions

Inside, the 65-millimetre flat burrs made of hardened steel are driven by a direct drive at 1350 revolutions per minute and 310 watts. The low speed is intentional: it keeps the burrs cooler, protects delicate aromatic compounds, and delivers a consistent grind across all brew methods. The patented Silent Technology dampens motor noise, and the ACE-System reduces static and clumping. Stepless Micrometric Regulation patented by Eureka – unlimited fine steps, plus several revolutions of range from fine espresso to coarse French press grounds.

Versatile Fork – portafilter today, All Purpose Cup tomorrow

The new Versatile Fork is the physical counterpart to the grinder's dual nature. In espresso mode, it holds a 53mm, 54mm, or 58mm portafilter so the scale measures precisely. In filter mode, you swap the portafilter for the included All Purpose Cup, the grinder recognises it, re-tares itself, and grinds the filter grounds straight into the cup. Height adjustment without tools. Sounds simple. In daily use, it's the difference between "I use my grinder for everything" and "I ended up needing a second grinder for filter after all".

When to choose the 65 AP, when the Libra 55?

That's the honest question. Anyone who drinks only espresso and values grind speed is better served by the Libra 55 – it's faster than the 65 AP at espresso, at 1.8 to 2.5 grams per second (0.8 to 1.2 g/s). Anyone who has filter, pour-over, French press, or Aeropress as a regular part of their coffee ritual gains a genuine all-rounder in the 65 AP, with large burrs and low retention. Both grinders are good. They're good in different ways for different people. Our opinion is one of many – if you're not sure, come see us in the showrooms in Bern or Zürich.

Who the Libra 65 All Purpose is made for

The 65 AP is for everyone who regularly uses more than one brew method. If you pull espresso from a portafilter machine in the morning and make V60 or Aeropress in the afternoon, you get the rare combination of 65-millimetre burrs, Grind-by-Weight, and an adjustment dial that actually makes switching between brew methods pleasant. Anyone who drinks only espresso and values grind speed will find the Libra 55 the better fit. Anyone who wants to switch to a single-dose workflow should look at the Option-O Lagom series too. Anyone who prefers a hand grinder: the Comandante series remains the reference in that space. No budget is only a starting point – the 65 AP plays in a league where versatility and grind quality meet. If you're drawn to this setup, you know why.

Matching setup around the 65 AP

Because the grinder handles dosing itself, you don't need an extra scale for dosing in your espresso workflow. If you want to weigh the final espresso weight at a ratio of 1:2 or 1:2.5 – or if you need a scale under the cup for brewing anyway – reach for either the affordable, precise Normcore scale or the Acaia with app, flow-rate display, and Bluetooth.

Because the 65 AP also grinds for filter, brew equipment becomes a natural addition. Affordable and proven: Hario V60, Aeropress. If you want to invest in a brewer for life, take a look at the Weber Workshops BIRD too. For water temperature, a precise kettle: the Varia AURA Standard for consistent hot water, or the AURA FLUX with degree-accurate temperature control.

For the espresso workflow, our usual duality applies – both price segments are honestly good. Affordable and thoughtful: Normcore tamper, WDT Tool, Puck Screen, Tamping Station. Tools for life: Weber Workshops tamper, Moonraker WDT Tool, Tamping Station.

The 65 AP fits practically any portafilter machine up to a 58 mm portafilter. Our machine advisory tool helps with the choice. For a direct grinder comparison: Grind-by-Weight grinders compared and our wider Eureka range.

In the end, every workflow needs the right bean. Our CCC beans from our own roastery are developed for machines like the 65 AP – and they taste just as convincing on filter as on espresso.

Frequently asked questions about the Eureka Mignon Libra 65 All Purpose

What sets the 65 AP apart from the Libra 55?

Four points: larger 65 mm flat burrs instead of 55 mm, Blind Upper Burr design for less retention, a new King-Size adjustment dial with revolution counter on top of the grinder, and suitability for all brew methods instead of just espresso. The Libra 55 is faster at espresso (1.8 to 2.5 g/s vs 0.8 to 1.2 g/s) and focused on espresso. The 65 AP is slower at espresso but just as suited to pour-over, Aeropress, and French press as it is to espresso.

Is the 65 AP a single-dose grinder?

No. The 65 AP has a 350-gram bean hopper and is designed as an on-demand grinder with a hopper. Thanks to the Blind Upper Burr, retention is significantly reduced, but the single-dose principle – filling in one dose of beans per shot – isn't covered by this. If that's what you're after, the Option-O Lagom series serves you better.

Does the 65 AP really grind for filter, pour-over, and French press?

Yes. The 65 mm flat burrs with All-Purpose geometry are specifically built for this range. Brew output sits between 2.5 and 3.0 grams per second, and the grind range covers fine espresso grounds all the way to coarse French press grounds. The King-Size Dial with revolution counter makes switching between methods practical for daily use – you don't remember an abstract click value, but a concrete counter position.

Which colours are available in Switzerland?

We carry the 65 AP in the five colours our Swiss import partner regularly stocks: matte black, white, Ferrari Red, chrome, and the new Special Colour Teal Dark Blue. The manufacturer colour Grey is officially available but not currently in our standard range in Switzerland – on request, we're happy to check whether an order is possible.

Can I see the 65 AP live before buying?

Yes. As a Eureka partner in Switzerland, we carry the 65 AP in both of our showrooms: Bern, Gerberngasse 44, and Zürich, Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Not every colour variant is permanently on site – a call during business hours is enough, and we'll organise it at short notice. Online, we deliver within 2 to 4 business days across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein. Financing is available on request.

What's included in the delivery?

The grinder itself, a magnetic Dosing Funnel for clean filling of larger doses from eight grams up, and the Libra dosing cup (All Purpose Cup) for filter mode. That lets you serve both brewing worlds from day one.

Roastery tip

From a roastery perspective: the 65 AP shows its strength especially when you want to experience the same beans for both espresso and filter. Our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight show their chocolate and caramel notes with particular depth thanks to the large grinding surface and lower torque – that's our main recommendation. If you want maximum body without any acidity, reach for the Very Nutty. And precisely because the 65 AP can also do filter, it's worth the jump into the fruity world with our Wild Peach – in a V60 or Aeropress it unfolds differently than under nine bar of pressure. But that's just our recommendation. The beauty of coffee: you decide what tastes good to you. Every shot, every pour-over is unique. Bean and person change every day. That's not a limitation – it's the best part.
