Tampers
Buy Tampers Switzerland – from classic to spring-loaded and premium endgame
The tamper is one of the most distinctive tools in an espresso setup. The grind comes evenly out of the grinder, distribution is optimized with distribution tools – then comes the tamper. If you tamp differently with each shot, you'll get a different shot each time. Coffee Coaching Club carries 76 tampers in all relevant categories: classic Italian, spring-loaded with pressure consistency, premium endgame, with wood finishing, magnetically locking interchangeable systems.
What a good tamper achieves
Tamping pressure directly influences the flow rate: crooked or too weak pressure leads to channeling, which in turn brings bitterness and oxygen into the shot. Tamping consistency is one of the biggest variables in home and cafe workflow. Three ways to reduce it: classic tamper plus muscle memory (full manual control, traditional ritual), spring-loaded tamper (spring clicks at set pressure, always consistent pressure), automatic tamping with Puqpress (eliminates the variable completely).
Tamper Categories
Classic Tampers
Full manual control, traditional ritual, often with wood or stainless steel handles. Motta (classic Italian since 1929), Wiedemann (German wood finishing), MHW-3BOMBER (design variety with fair price-performance ratio).

Which tamper is right for you?
If you value the traditional tamping ritual: Motta classic or Wiedemann with wood finishing. If you want pressure consistency without effort: Normcore V3 or V4 with 20 kg spring. If you have competition ambitions: Weber Workshops Key or Pyxis setup. If you want design and color variety: MHW-3BOMBER. If you want to stay setup-consistent within a brand ecosystem: Normcore system (tamper, distribution, WDT, baskets in one design language).
If you want to completely eliminate tamping as a variable: Puqpress for automatic tamping – programmed pressure, flat surface, tamped in seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the correct tamping pressure?
Cafe standard: 15–20 kg. Spring-loaded tampers often have 20 kg as standard. If you tamp softer: 15 kg. If you tamp harder: 25 kg. More important than the exact value is consistency shot for shot.
Spring-loaded or classic?
Spring-loaded: guaranteed pressure consistency, immediate improvement in reproducibility. Classic: full tactile control, traditional ritual, greater variability depending on the day. Both work – spring-loaded is the easier choice for consistency.
How do I tamp correctly?
Portafilter on a flat surface. Place tamper vertically. Press down with weight (not force). With classic tampers, polish rotation is optional. With spring-loaded: press until it clicks.
Wood, stainless steel or aluminum?
Wood handles: warm feel, visually appealing, slightly more maintenance. Stainless steel: classic Italian, robust, dishwasher-safe. Aluminum: lightweight, often anodized in colors. Personal preference.
Can I test tampers live before buying?
Yes. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) we carry the most important tamper categories in 58 mm and 53 mm.
